The Top of the Rock has the best uninterrupted views across Manhattan. Everyone in our family just went WOW!! Even my height phobic husband managed to enjoy the views & still feel safe. The Kids 14,12 & 7 thought it was AWESOME & they take some impressing. More space & fewer queues than the Empire State Building of which you also get a fabulous view. We thoroughly recommend visiting the Top of the Rock.

Top of the Rock is a must. You are able to view NYC and see it all. It is an awesome site! It doesn't matter what time of the day you go, it is a must!

Julie F., United States, 07-2008

The view is good but it is difficult to get good pictures, there are glass walls all around and often there is a glare.

A visit to the top of the rock is a breathtaking experience in terms of the views of new york city , you get a 360 degree view of this amazing city and because there is a limit on the number of visitors at any one time it's really comfortable

We enjoyed the Ttop of the Rock. Staff was friendly. Would love to have purchased a photo that was taken by staff, but it was a bit costly. With Digital cameras and printers now, there really is no need to pay that kind of money. If you want to sell and make it more attractive to visitors, have more options with different prices - that way you can rope them in!

I was pleased with the quick service at the Top of the Rock. We were immediately told to join the next tour without waiting on line. I would use this service again. Thanks.

It was interesting to get a different view of New York City from a tall building other than the Empire State Building.

Robbye M., United States, 08-2007

very efficient - no queues! fantastic views / really good deal

Lisa O., United Kingdom, 07-2007

The ease of using this site was great and having the vouchers ahead of time guaranteed our admission and saved a lot of time. Have already recommended to my friends.

THE STORY BEHIND TOP OF THE ROCK

A STORY THAT BEGINS IN 1933...

John D. Rockefeller, Jr. first opened the Observation Deck atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza more than 70 years ago, to give something back to New Yorkers and their guests from around the world- a place to appreciate and celebrate the city.

The Observation Deck's original design was inspired by the decks of the great ocean liners of the era -complete with deck chairs, gooseneck fixtures and vents inspired by a ship's stacks. A trip to the Observation Deck was like setting sail in the heart of the world's most dynamic city.

Now, for the first time in 20 years, this breathtaking vantage point is being re-introduced to the people of New York and the world.

...AND CONTINUES INTO THE 21ST CENTURY

TOP OF THE ROCK â„¢ is a streamlined, uncluttered and thrilling experience - with panels of fully transparent, non-reflective safety glass allowing completely unobstructed, open-air views of the entire city. The architect Gabellini blended modern materials with the deck's original elements - like the custom ""shot-sawn" limestone and cast-aluminum fleurs-de-lis that are signatures of the original design. The result is Art Deco grace combined with state-of-the-art technology and simplicity.

History:

  • Observation deck was first opened to the public in 1933
  • Deck was originally designed to evoke the upper decks of a 1930s grand ocean liner, outfitted with deck chairs, gooseneck fixtures, and large air-conditioning vents intended to look like the stacks on a ship's deck
  • The observation deck was closed to the public in 1986

Innovative Features:

  • Multi-media exhibit on the history of Rockefeller Center featuring contemporary plasma screens alongside an original basswood model of 30 Rockefeller Plaza
  • Sky shuttle elevators have projections on the glass ceiling showing images from 1930s through present day, symbolizing the passage of time, as they transport visitors to the deck
  • Completely indoor viewing areas with floor to ceiling windows
  • Brand new, transparent safety glass panels that allow completely unobstructed open-air views and protection from the elements

Top of the Rock provides visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the architecture of Rockefeller Center and its significance to the growth of New York City. Tishman Speyer is committed to the preservation and restoration of Rockefeller Center, which is the site of numerous public exhibits and events. Each day, an estimated 250,000 people walk through the Rockefeller Plaza complex, which is home to the most famous Christmas Tree in the world

To make your visit even more pleasant and comfortable, TOP OF THE ROCKâ„¢ has an exclusive entrance on West 50th Street, between fifth and 6th Avenues, which leads directly to our ticket counter and exciting interactive exhibit space. Map of 30 Rockefeller Plz New York, NY 10112-0002
